The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
