The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Boost Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Poor Response

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.

Ismailer stated that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address community desires.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Below is the full text from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a sharper vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of the team. After a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to persist witnessing the progress of the game in the months to come.
